As a first time in growing dreads, you will find that this tends to be tricky. There is so much that there is to know. If you are rearing young locks, the following are some of the things that t you have to do.

Cleaning

The young dreads are usually delicate and therefore, any sign of neglect on cleanliness will cause them to be stunted. The stunted locks take long   to grow because dirt clogs the pores, causing delay in their growth. The itching which results could also be a big impediment as you will be removing the with the fingers as you scratch the scalp.

Using conditioners and shampoos

If you are growing dreads, you need to invest in quality conditioners and shampoos. These two are important for maintaining clean and healthy dreads. The regular use of the shampoos and conditioners help the dreads to grow in a healthy way. When choosing the shampoos and conditioners, choose the natural ones which will not be too harsh on the hair. The commercially available ones tend to damage the growing dreads and this might have an impact on the future dreads.

Prevent the dreads from breaking

The dreads tend to break into pieces and especially if you have a poor diet. One should therefore ensure that they eat a balanced det. The growing dreads are usually demanding and when it comes to nutrition.  As a matter of fact, diet plays a very vital role in keeping healthy dreads.

Threading

The dreads should be threaded as they grow. This helps them to take shape at an early age. They should not be allowed to scatter as this would mean that you will have a hard time bringing them together when they are fully grown. Making small knots is a helpful as this tends to make them compact.

The styles

Since the dreads are still young, you might not have thought of the style to go for. However, this is the best time to decide which style to go for. Your hair stylist will look at the type, size, colour among others before starting to shape them.

If you want to look your best, you should learn to take care of the dreads so that they look sexy and beautiful.

Dyeing

Should you dye the growing dreads? This is a question many people ask as they are no sure if this is the right time. The truth of the matter is that there is nothing that will prevent you from doing so. However, you must do this regularly to keep up with their growth. If the dye is not applied from the root, only one part of the dread will be dyed while the other one will come out dark as the natural hair colour.

The young dread tends to break if they are pulled or not handled well. You should learn to handle them such that there is not too much pressure applied on them. As long as you do the right thing, they will grow into healthy, mature dreads.
